Experience the thrill of creative effort! Do you long to jumpstart—or bolster—your writing practice in a way that stokes the writing muse? Need submission guidance? This workshop checks those boxes. The Sun, a highly regarded “always authentic, always personal, always relevant” magazine, invites readers to submit sincere nonfiction pieces each month to their “Readers Write” section of true stories. Plan to write, and prepare to submit, two to three compelling pieces that address The Sun’s upcoming topics.

Our time will fly, so we’ll work energetically, remembering that serious work takes serious play. We’ll first look deeply into The Sun Magazine, whose issues “evoke the splendor and heartache of being human.” We’ll then have several focused mini-lessons in craft with guided writing prompts that elicit your best writing, followed by constructive group feedback. Expect a lively interactive session and breakthroughs aplenty. During our time together, expect the following and more:

  • Proven writing strategies to jumpstart compelling nonfiction pieces

  • A chance to share aloud and to receive constructive feedback from participants and two experienced writing coaches

  • An introduction to The Sun magazine, including step-by-step guidance on The Sun’s submission process

  • Narrow your focus while capturing the bigger story to connect with readers

  • Apply revision strategies to tell your story with insight, authenticity & energy

  • Draft two to three nonfiction pieces for submission to The Sun magazine’s “Readers Write” section

  • Discuss several other resources & outlets for publication, as time allows

To register and confirm your spot, please complete and submit the simple form below.  We'll send you a confirmation email with instructions for payment.

Cheers!

FROM OUR MOST RECENT WORKSHOP:

”I took my memoir, volume one, out of my dusty drawer today and saw several post-it notes you had attached. Your comments actually brought tears to my eyes (what's happening to this old man??!!) So--a very belated Thank You. You went so far above and beyond in reading carefully and giving me just the pop of critique that now has me limbering up my typing fingers to get back to work on the other half+ of my life.”
